Ukraine will be able to cover over 50% its needs in gas import through supplies from the European Union with the beginning of work of Vojany-Uzhgorod gas pipeline, announced Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Prodan in Kyiv.

“The volumes of the reverse flows, which we can receive from Slovakia, are estimated today at 8-10 bn cu m per year… Taking into account Slovakia, Poland and Hungary (gas corridors through these countries), we can cover our needs in gas import,” he specified.

At that, Prodan noted that the aforementioned gas corridors will allow to supply around 16 bn cu m of gas per year to Ukraine.

However, the minister informed about the attempts of Gazprom to influence the European partners to force them stop selling gas to Ukraine.

“There have been attempts of Gazprom to shut the reverse for us and influence the European operators during the negotiations with them," he said.

As Capital reported, the gas reserves in the underground gas storage facilities increased to 15.2 bn cu m.
