Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food upgraded the forecast of grain crops yield by 7.3%

Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine has upgraded the forecast of grain crops and grain legumes yield in Ukraine by 7.3% or 4.42 mn t to 64.42 mn t in 2014, said Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Ihor Shvaika at a briefing of the Cabinet in Kyiv.

“The yield of grain crops and grain legumes (wheat, rye, buckwheat, corn, barley, peas, rice, sorghum and other grain crops) amounts to 64.42 mn t,” he said.

In particular, the harvest of corn will be at the level of 30 mn t, according to the minister.

Shvaika specified that the results of the forecast were introduced not taking into account the harvest in Crimea and losses of crops in Donbas.

In addition, he added that the average yield of grain crops and grain legumes is higher this year than previous – 43.9 cwt per 1 ha against 39.9 cwt per 1 ha.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine predicted that the crop yield will be in the amount of 59.93 mn t the current year (except Crimea), Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food – of 60 mn t.

As of September 29, the agricultural enterprises of Ukraine gathered 41.2 mn t of grain from the area of 10.96 mn ha, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food.
