The authorities of Ukraine have reconsidered their intention to withdraw from the Commonwealth of Independent States, said Apostrophe.
Six months after the authorities of Ukraine have voiced the intention, they did not take any steps, said the press service of the CIS Executive Committee.
“Those statements were unofficial. We did not receive any documents which confirm the intention of Ukraine to withdraw from the organization,” announced the representative of the press service of the committee.
To date, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko did not officially refuse from the participation in the meeting of the heads of the CIS member states which will be held on October 10 in Minsk, according to the committee. The Poroshenko’s press service said that there is no information about the President’s plans, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs informed that “the decision on Ukraine’s participation in the meeting was not approved yet”.
“We continue cooperation with the Commonwealth in the framework of the CIS free trade zone,” announced Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade Valeriy Pyatnytskiy.
“The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade drew a conclusion that the withdrawal from the CIS does not make economic sense for Ukraine as the CIS is not only Russia. Upon that the issue is not considered,” informed Head of the permanent delegation to the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member States MP Serhiy Hrynevetskiy.
