Oil and gasEuropean Commission – Ukraine to pay Russia US $4.6 bn until the end of the year
Ukraine should pay Russia US $4.6 bn including the amount of the debt for earlier supplied gas at US $3.1 bn and US $1.5 bn for the supplies of 4 cu m of fuel this year, according to the press release of the European Commission.
“After seven rounds of the negotiations mediated by the European Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger the sides agreed on the "winter package" of agreements in the total amount of US $4.6 bn that would ensure uninterrupted gas supplies to Ukraine and ultimately to Europe,” said the press release.
President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso commenting the reached agreements, in particular, noted that “economic logic” won during the negotiations.
