Salt shortage in Russia due to reduced supplies from Ukraine

23334

The Ministry of Agriculture of Russia took note of shortage of table salt on account of the decline of supplies from Ukraine, said Deputy Minister Andrey Volkov at the Russian Food Safety Forum.

He added that there was an ongoing reorientation of supply sources.

In 2013 the share of imported table salt in Russia was 40%, and 80% of that amount was imported from Ukraine, according to the Rusprodsoyuz (Association of Producers and Suppliers of Food Products).

At the same time Russia’s largest importer of salt – Ukrainian state enterprise Artyomsol – is located in Soledar in Donetsk oblast.
