An intermediate solution to the gas problem between Russia and Ukraine must be found by October, European Union Energy Commissioner Gunther Oettinger said.
By the end of the week, the parties intend to set a date for three-sided talks between Russia, the European Commission and Ukraine, Oettinger said prior to a meeting with Ukrainian Minister of Energy and the Coal Industry Yuriy Prodan to discuss this issue.
"And over the course of two weeks, we will try to talk over gas issues to find an intermediate solution [on price] by October," he said.
Prodan in turn said: "We are set on [finding] a compromise. Our proposals were practically always at one with the European Commission, and I hope that it will be like this in the future."
