EU began the appeal procedure of Russian duties in WTO

8577

The European Union has begun the procedure of settlement of disputes on import tariffs established by Russia on several types of goods in the framework of the World Trade Organization, reported the press service of the European Commission.

In particular, Russia violated its obligations in the framework of WTO when establishing the import tariffs on paper products, refrigerators and palm oil, according to EU.

Overall, according to the document, the level of Russian import tariffs is below the limit established by the agreements on joining WTO, however the tariff for some commodities significantly exceeds the allowable level under the WTO rules.

The EU officials believe that Russia commits violations of two types: the first one is direct excess of import tariff, that is when 15% is established instead of 5%, second – the collection of the amount exceeding the duty calculated at maximum allowable rate, when importing several goods to Russia.
