Ukraine's Rada demands prosecution of Crimean deputies

Ukraine's Verkhovna Rada is demanding that the prosecutor general urgently consider the issue of the prosecution of deputies of the Crimean parliament and the Sevastopol City Council.

A decree to this effect was supported by 229 people's deputies on Friday.

The decree states that deputies of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and deputies of the Sevastopol City Council took an active part in the "legalization of the annexation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol."

In this regard, the Verkhovna Rada demanded that "the prosecutor general should urgently consider issues relating to the prosecution of deputies of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and deputies of the Sevastopol City Council and other officials of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea."

Among the officials mentioned in the decree is Vladimir Konstantinov, chairman of the Supreme Council of Crimea, and Yury Doinikov, chairman of the Sevastopol City Council, who "committed actions posing a threat to the public and containing evidence of a crime enshrined by the Criminal Code of Ukraine."

According to the decree, the prosecutor general is to inform the parliament on the fulfillment of this decree within ten days.

The document takes effect on the day of its adoption.
